Everyone In The MCU Wants Vision's Technology
Vision's Synthezoid Technology Could Bring Back A Major MCU Villain
Will Vision Appear In Armor Wars?
Summary
- Vision Quest, led by Picard showrunner Terry Matalas, will premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
- White Vision's quest could tie into the events of Armor Wars, building a bigger storyline in Phase 6.
- Vision Quest could be used to set up the main villain for Armor Wars, potentially the villainous AI Ultron.
Disney+ may be cutting back on content from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Vision Quest is still moving forward with a new showrunner in Picard's Terry Matalas. The series is expected to act as a direct followup to 2021's WandaVision, which introduced a new version of Paul Bettany's Vision, a reconstructed synthezoid with all-white features sometimes referred to as White Vision. The drone-turned-reflective hero escaped Westview in WandaVision's finale after the original Vision implanted his own memories in his doppelganger's mind. Now, White Vision searches for his own identity in hopes of regaining what the S.W.O.R.D. agents who rebuilt his body took from him.
Vision Quest's release date in 2026 places it firmly in Phase 6 of the MCU, the third and final stage of the Multiverse Saga. This gives the Disney+ series the perfect opportunity to tie into the events of a particularly exciting Phase 6 movie, War Machine's upcoming solo film, Armor Wars. The upcoming film, which was originally conceived as a series, will follow Don Cheadle's James "Rhodey" Rhodes as he strives to preserve Tony Stark's legacy after his advanced technology falls into the wrong hands. Vision's upcoming solo series could perfectly play into the events of Armor Wars, offering the perfect setup for the highly-anticipated Phase 6 movie.

Ever since Tony Stark's death during the events of Avengers: Endgame, there have been countless villains chasing Stark technology, including Vision's high-tech synthezoid body. In WandaVision, the secret agency known as S.W.O.R.D., led by Tyler Hayword, obtained Vision's corpse from Wakanda, taking it apart to use the vibranium that composed his body. Eventually, they rebuilt Vision's body in the form of White Vision, which they used to infiltrate Westview and almost kill Wanda Maximoff. Now that White Vision is loose in the world, there are even more dangerous enemies who may seek to obtain his advanced technology for their own nefarious purposes.
One villain who may be interested in Vision is Sharon Carter, who has been rumored to appear in Armor Wars. While Sharon Carter won't be Armor Wars' main villain, she could appear as an antagonist in Vision Quest, chasing down White Vision for her mysterious employer, whom she is seen speaking to on the phone in the post-credit scene of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This unseen benefactor would certainly be interested in Vision's technology, hinting at a bigger storyline playing out in multiple Phase 6 titles. Vision Quest could also finally reveal who Carter has been working for, potentially Iron Man 2's long-dormant antagonist Justin Hammer or the newly introduced Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, whose longing for vibranium is well-documented. The revelation of this shadowy baddie could also lead to the revelation of a larger conspiracy to bring back an even bigger villain.

Ultron has been rumored as Armor Wars' main villain ever since the movie was announced. Tony Stark's most infamous creation, Ultron would be the perfect villain to challenge the late hero's legacy and force War Machine to take action. However, Ultron's death at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron presents the MCU with a conundrum in figuring out how to bring the villain back. Dedicating a series like Vision Quest to answering this question would perfectly set Ultron up as Armor Wars' main villain. Vision Quest can follow Ultron's lackeys, including the likes of Sharon Carter, Justin Hammer, and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, as they attempt to use Vision to bring Ultron back once more.
Ultron was the Avengers' most menacing villain and would be most welcome to return in Vision Quest or Armor Wars. Moreover, it would make sense for Vision to play a key role in bringing the rogue artificial intelligence back for another round. After all, it was Ultron who first created Vision, who was intended to become the AI's next body. Vision even carries with him a certain degree of Ultron's personality. As a result, Vision may be the key to bringing Ultron back, as Vision Quest may reveal. If this is the case, the series could end on an epic cliffhanger featuring Ultron's return and a setup for Armor Wars.

Armor Wars centers on Don Cheadle's War Machine, giving the character a solo movie for the very first time in his long tenure in the MCU. Even so, fans have generally felt that he wouldn't be the only Avenger appearing in the series. Rumors have run the gamut from Rhodey teaming up with an AI facsimile of Tony Stark to the hero even starting his own branch of the Avengers to combat whatever threat he may face in the upcoming film. However, it would be a better choice to pair War Machine up with a single other hero like White Vision, keeping the film focused on their mission rather than getting bogged down in sweeping storylines and team-ups.
That being said, Armor Wars will have a lot to deal with, especially after Rhodey's Skrull reveal in Secret Invasion. The film will have to explain precisely how long Rhodey was gone, what his life looks like now that he has returned, and what damage his Skrull doppelganger wreaked before being found out. As such, it may be simply too much for Armor Wars to squeeze another hero like White Vision into its story and may elect to focus exclusively on War Machine. Nevertheless, if theories about Ultron's return prove true, Armor Wars could find Vision necessary to tell its story.
Vision Quest is still a long way away from its premiere on Disney+, but it is already one of the most exciting installments in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series presents an exciting opportunity to connect to Rhodey's Armor Wars movie, putting together a multipart storyline that could be one of the best parts of the Multiverse Saga.
