Chapter Text
Meanwhile, at the far isolated peninsula of the kingdom of Gilneas, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot make their plan on attacking the Gilnean Capital City. With the grave news of the Scourge invasion now spread upon the kingdom of Gilneas, King Greymane and his nation are all in a state of shock and disarray as they found out the Undead Scourge have entered their realm by successfully destroying the gate of the Greymane Wall and crushing the Gilnean defenses on the northern borders. The old king has ordered to tighten up the defenses of the Capital City and prepare all their warriors for an upcoming war battle. Genn tasks his lieutenant Darius and an old powerful archmage called Arugal to aid him in leading the defense of the Capital City. Genn also tasks his son, Liam, to lead a mass evacuation for the common citizens of the Capital to the safety of the distant Tempest Reach village located upon the coastal hillside to the southeast of the Capital City. With such drastic actions, the Gilneans prepare themselves for the fiercest and toughest battle they shall face against the Scourge.
Genn: "This is outrageous! Those blasted undead have gotten inside our kingdom! I cannot believe that the rotting wretches managed to destroy our great wall and defeat all our mighty defenders on our borders! This cannot be! I removed our nation from the Alliance and created that wall to distant us from all the troubles and issues of the others! But apparently, it was not enough to safeguard us permanently from the undead. Lordaeron, Dalaran, and even the ancient elf kingdom had all fallen to those dead monsters. Now they had come to consume our nation as well. I will not let it happen!"
Darius: "What are your orders, King Genn?"
Genn: "We will protect our people, our homes! We shall not fall to the undead! We shall stand and fight to drive them all out of our land, and we will do so in defending our Capital! War is upon us! Darius, I need you to prepare all our armies and strengthen our defenses here! Every district of the city must be heavily fortified. We shall stand and meet those vile undead ravagers with our blades!"
Darius: "As you command, Sire. I will prepare our forces and secure our defenses here in the city."
Genn: "Arugal. I need you to head into the port of Keel Harbor and to the little town of Emberstone to warn our people there about the undead invasion. Tell our warriors in there to prepare for battle."
Arugal: "Yes, my king. I will teleport to those towns at once, and send word to our outlying forces."
Genn: "And finally, as for you, my son."
Liam: "Father, let me fight alongside you! Let me help you defend our homes against the undead!"
Genn: "Our kingdom shall be defended at all cost, my son, but what good is a kingdom without its people? Liam, I know you are brave young man and a noble prince to our nation. Your mother and I raised you and your sister well, but you shall not be fighting with me here in the city. I need you to gather all the citizens who cannot take up arms and lead them into safety of Tempest's Reach. I need you to evacuate and to protect them from undead onslaught. Do this for our people, my son."
Liam: "But, I… Very well, father. I understand. I shall do as you ask. I shall call upon some knights to help me in evacuating all the common folks to Tempest's Reach. I will ensure their safety there."
Genn: "Go, Liam. There is no better man for me to entrust the task of safeguarding our people than to you, my son. My mind will be at ease on this coming war knowing their safety is in your hands."
Liam: "I will not fail you, father. I will be on my way now. I wish you luck on this upcoming war."
Genn: "Of course, son. Protect our people just as we shall defend our city here! Gilneas shall stand! I will not let the undead consume our lands! We must succeed where the other nations have failed!"
The Gilnean leaders quickly move to do their tasks that have been assigned to them by King Genn. Darius strengthens up the defenses of the Capital City and assembles their army. Arugal magically teleports himself to give word to the port town of Keel Harbor on the northwest near the Headlands, and then to the outlying small town of Emberstone Village in the far northeastern hill near the huge Emberstone Mine, which is known for its abundance of coal. Finally, Prince Liam rallies all of the common citizens of the Capital City and leads them to evacuate towards the safety of the Tempest's Reach Village, located on the coastal hills to the southeast of the Capital City. With the war against the Scourge at hand, King Genn draws out his sword and braces himself for a vicious heavy battle.
On the other hand, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot have begun to establish their new base on the southern portion of the Northgate Woods. From the position of their new bastion, the lich and the flesh beast look upon the circular island Capital City of Gilneas to the south that is surrounded by river streams all around it. Just as Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot are making preparations for their soon assault on the Gilnean Capital, two invisible ghostly shades that were sent upon a scouting mission have returned to make reports on what they learned in the region. The first shade had scouted the outskirts of the Capital City, while the second shade had scouted the western borders of the region across the river. Both shades hold valuable strategical information about the Gilnean defenses for the whole region.
Kel'Thuzad: "Behold, Gorerot! Standing before us is the Capital City of Gilneas, the heart of their kingdom. There resides the bulk of their nation, including their own mighty king, Genn Greymane. The city has not been seen in the open since after the war against the Orcish Horde years ago. It is time that we pay a visit to old Genn, and show him the folly of hiding his nation from the Scourge."
Gorerot: "Destroy big city! Crush puny Gilneans! Slay old weak king! We take over the kingdom!"
Kel'Thuzad: "Indeed we will, Gorerot. Once we conquered their Capital City, our victory over this kingdom would be assured and their fall will be inevitable. And with it, we must strike boldly with great efficiency if we are to take over the Capital City. And we shall now find out about the Gilnean defenses around this region for our scouting shades have finally returned. A perfect timing for us."
Shade (1): "Greetings, master Kel'Thuzad. I bring information about of I saw at their Capital City."
Shade (2): "And I also learned much of the areas about the western region across the river, master."
Kel'Thuzad: "Very well, my servants. Tell us of everything about what you both have discovered."
Shade (1): "Master, the Gilnean Capital is huge and is heavily defended within. The entire city isle is divided into four districts, and King Genn Greymane has deployed a full battalion of soldiers on every district. We must prepare our armies for a massive attack against their Capital. There is also a small outlying town somewhere at the far northeastern hill across the river. It seems the town has some significance for the Gilneans, and we may be able to reach it through one of the city districts."
Shade (2): "In addition to those, master. I have discovered a large port town to the west across the river that also poses a threat to us. The western port town is alerted to our presence and could send troops against our base in support to their Capital City. Fortunately for us, we can bolster our forces for I also discovered a gravesite across the bridge on the west. Those buried there can fight for us."
Kel'Thuzad: "This information will prove useful for us indeed. We shall make proper preparations. We shall tear down their Capital and all their other settlements! Now, let our invasion commence!"
Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot assemble a full army of undead warriors on their base. The Scourge forces consist of ghouls, crypt fiends, plague eruptors, abominations, necromancers, banshees, gargoyles, obsidian destroyers, meat wagons, and obsidian statues. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead forces to move out from the bastion and head to the western route as they intend to crush the distant port town of Keel Harbor first before making their huge fierce attack against the Capital City itself. After crossing through the western river by a bridge, the Scourge forces arrive at the gravesite that the scouting shade discovered. The cemetery is called Aderic's Repose, and it is located south near the bridge. Kel'Thuzad is delighted to see many buried dead beneath the land that they could raise.
Kel'Thuzad: "The old burial site of Gilneas, Aderic's Repose. It appears we are in luck. There are quite many that rest on these grounds. We now call on them to arise in the name of the Lich King!"
A group of strong zombies and elite skeleton warriors rise up from the grave, and join the ranks of the already vast undead army. The Scourge forces had been further bolstered by the dead from the Aderic's Repose. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their large undead army towards the northern route until they arrive at the port town of Keel Harbor. The port is built with great fortified defenses and is being protected by a large force of Gilnean soldiers as well as several stationed warships by the docks. The Gilnean forces at Keel Harbor are prepared for battle as they have expected the coming of the Undead Scourge on being notified by Archmage Arugal as ordered by King Genn Greymane.
Kel'Thuzad: "The port town called Keel Harbor. Attack, warriors, and destroy their entire village!"
Wasting no time, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their vast undead army to launch a fierce attack on Keel Harbor. A heavy war battle ensues as the Gilnean soldiers of Keel Harbor fight in the defense of their port town against the undead invaders. With the Scourge armies now invading the heart of the Gilnean peninsula, the well prepared Gilnean forces do their best to defend the land and prevent the undead from consuming their kingdom just as it did upon Lordaeron, Dalaran, and Quel'thalas. The Gilnean troops at Keel Harbor are putting up a strong defense against the vast undead invaders. The battleships stationed by the docks are also bombarding their fiery cannons against the Scourge forces that went near the riverbanks. However, despite the tough resistance of the Gilneans on Keel Harbor, the Scourge forces eventually managed to claim the advantage upon the vicious war battle.
The Scourge forces have the advantage due to the strength and powers of Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot. After a while of gruesome war battle, the Scourge eventually broke through and defeat the Gilneans by the Keel Harbor while losing a moderate number of undead warriors. The undead invaders have decimated the entire port town. The Gilnean defenders have all been slain, and their warships have been burned and sunk beneath the deep rivers. After claiming the victory, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their remaining undead warriors and head to the hills of the Headlands to the northwest of the Keel Harbor where they encounter a group of neutral hostile sasquatches. The undead warriors kill the sasquatches, and take the items that the beasts had hoarded. After dealing with the sasquatches, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot head back for their base on Northgate Woods to muster a new vast undead army to lead upon their upcoming assault at the Capital City. Kel'Thuzad also briefly returned on Aderic's Repose to raise another group of elite zombies and skeletons to further bolster their ranks.
Kel'Thuzad: "I once again call to those who rest beneath this soil to rise and fight for the Scourge!"
Upon returning to their base in the southern forested portion of Northgate Woods, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot assemble a new army of undead warriors. After mustering their warriors, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their army to move due south directly towards the Capital City of Gilneas. The Capital is divided into four districts that are separated by water canals running through the rivers. Reaching the outside of the Capital City, the undead army pass through the bridge, and enter the northwestern district of the Capital called the Cathedral Quarter, which is main entry portion of the Capital. The district is mostly park setting with fountains and statues. A large cathedral called the Light's Dawn Cathedral stands in the middle of the district. The Cathedral Quarter is also connected on two other districts of the city that are the Greymane Court on the south, and the Merchant Square on the east.
The Gilnean soldiers on the entire Capital consist of footmen, knights, dwarven riflemen, dwarven mortar teams, dwarven flying machines, and siege engines. Several fortified defensive towers have been built throughout the Cathedral Quarter. A large force of Gilnean troops guard the district and are being led by Archmage Arugal, who is standing right outside of Light's Dawn Cathedral. Like most other old powerful human mages on Lordaeron, Arugal was part of the old order of the Kirin Tor on Dalaran. Arugal survived from the destruction of Dalaran, and returned to the safety of his native homeland of Gilneas afterwards. After witnessing the horrors unleashed by the Scourge and Legion throughout Lordaeron and Dalaran, Arugal swore to King Genn to protect their nation from having the same fate as the other nations that fell to the undead and demons. With the undead now invading Gilneas, Arugal shall fight with all his powers to aid King Genn in defending their homes.
Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot arrive on the Cathedral Quarter with their vast undead army. Upon seeing Arugal, Kel'Thuzad recalls him as his old former colleague in the Kirin Tor on Dalaran years ago. Arugal also remembers Kel'Thuzad, and he is utterly disgusted to see of what became of his former colleague. At the moment, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead forces to launch a full assault against the Gilnean defenders. A fierce war battle ensues as the Scourge army invade the Cathedral Quarter of the Capital City. The archmage Arugal comes forth to lead the Gilnean troops, and just as the war battle occurs, Arugal directly confronts his old former Kirin Tor colleague, Kel'Thuzad. While fighting, Arugal expresses all his anger and hatred for Kel'Thuzad and the Undead Scourge.
Kel'Thuzad: "We have reached the Capital City, my warriors! Press the attack! Let none survive!"
Arugal: "The wretched undead have arrived, my soldiers! To battle! Defend our city! For Gilneas!"
Kel'Thuzad: "What? Arugal? Yes, it is you! My old colleague from Dalaran, Arugal."
Arugal: "So we meet again after all this time, Kel'Thuzad! Even in your vile grotesque form as an undead, I can clearly recognize you! I have waited for this chance to finally face you, Kel'Thuzad!"
Kel'Thuzad: "I am definitely surprised to see you still alive after all this time, Arugal. I had thought that you have already perished along with the other foolish wizards of Dalaran that fell before us."
Arugal: "You will pay for all that you did to Dalaran, Kel'Thuzad. You betrayed the Kirin Tor and sold your soul to the undead! You and that vile traitorous bastard Prince Arthas to ravage our city! You brought the demonlord that destroyed Dalaran and unleashed hell onto this world! You caused so much terror and destruction, Kel'Thuzad! I shall not let you destroy this kingdom as well! I will defeat you here, and put an end to your evil once and for all, Lich! For the Kirin Tor! For Gilneas!"
Kel'Thuzad: "You are a fool, Arugal, like Antonidas and all the rest in the Kirin Tor. The old order was blind and weak! They all deserved to fall! The Lich King had given me true powers and eternal life! You think you can defeat me? Your old magic will not work against my powers, Arugal! You shall die just like the others, and the entire kingdom of Gilneas shall be consumed by the Scourge!"
Both Kel'Thuzad and Arugal casts their magical powers in battling against one another in the midst of fierce battle. The Lich uses his icy powers of Frost Nova and Frost Armor, and his most powerful necromantic spell of Death and Decay. On the other hand, the Archmage uses his own icy spell of Blizzard as well as summoning several Water Elementals to fight for him. In terms of their mastery of magical powers, Kel'Thuzad and Arugal are evenly matched against one another. However, the Scourge have the advantage on the war battle due to the presence of the mighty flesh beast Gorerot. The hulking flesh beast uses his own great strength and foul toxic plague-based abilities on fighting the Gilnean army. Despite the strong defenses of the Gilneans on the Cathedral Quarter, the undead forces have claimed the upper hand in the war battle and managed to overwhelm the Gilnean army.
The Scourge eventually defeat the Gilneans, despite losing a considerable number of undead troops during the fierce battle. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot successfully conquer the Cathedral Quarter of the Gilnean Capital City. The Light's Dawn Cathedral has been burned by the undead. Arugal and few surviving Gilnean warriors managed to escape when the archmage used his Mass Teleport spell to teleport themselves to another district in the city. Given their victory on the first district of the city, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot rally their standing undead warriors and lead them in moving towards the other districts of the Capital City. To the east of the Cathedral Quarter lies another city district that is called the Merchant Square, which is the center of trade and marketing for the Capital City. The Scourge forces move through the bridge that connects the Cathedral Quarter and Merchant Square.
Kel'Thuzad: "We have conquered the Cathedral Quarter! Time to move to the other city districts."
The Scourge forces cross through the city bridge and quickly arrived at the Merchant Square. Upon arriving at the Merchant Square, Kel'Thuzad senses some valuable items and treasures around the area for the commercial trading and marketing in the Capital City. The Merchant Square has lighter defenses than the Cathedral Quarter. The district is being protected by a group of knights, dwarven riflemen and dwarven flying machines. Several defensive fortified towers are also built around the district. With the strangely less defensive forces on the Merchant Square, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot confidently assume an easy victory over the district as they intend to make a short work of invading the area as well as searching and claiming all of the useful treasures of the Gilneans for themselves.
Kel'Thuzad: "So this is the Merchant Square, the center of trading businesses on the city. No doubt this area contains storehouses and other hidden useful artifacts that we can claim. We shall conquer this place and find the items. It is quite strange that this district has less defenses than the previous."
Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead army in launching an assault upon the Merchant Square. There are several city storehouses, vaults, and crates scattered in some corners of the district, which contain various artifacts. The Gilnean soldiers in the Merchant Square protect the treasures of their people from the invading Scourge. The Scourge forces scour the street of the district and eventually found a group of Gilnean troops guarding some crates and barrels that contain several useful items. Wasting no time, the undead warriors charge against the Gilnean soldiers, but onto the surprise of Kel'Thuzad, the Gilneans have placed some hidden explosive landmines surrounding the crates as their additional defense on the district. The scattered landmines instantly explode and killed several undead warriors. Kel'Thuzad realizes the wise defensive traps of the Gilneans at Merchant Square.
Kel'Thuzad: "What?! Explosive goblin landmines! Now I see why there are less soldiers defending this place. Greymane and his lackeys are cleverer than I thought. Be wary, warriors! We must tread carefully on scouring this district! Our enemies filled the streets with scattered hidden landmines!"
Despite the explosion of the landmines, the undead warriors kill the group of Gilnean soldiers, and destroy the crates and claim the useful items inside. After taking all the treasures, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead forces in searching for the other item storages around the district. Along their way, the Scourge found other various vaults and storehouses that hold more useful items. The item storages are being defended by various Gilnean troops, fortified towers, and as well as hidden explosive landmines that are smartly placed upon strategic locations. The Scourge forces fight and defeat the Gilnean troops with Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot being able to steal the items being guarded. However, due to the secret explosive defenses of the Gilneans, the Scourge lost a number of undead troops upon scouring and fighting through the Merchant Square. Kel'Thuzad notices hidden locked exit gate by the edge of the district that leads toward the northeastern hills outside the Capital City.
Kel'Thuzad: "It seems there is an exit that lies through the gate leading to the northeastern woods."
The Scourge forces eventually defeat the last of the Gilnean forces defending the Merchant Square. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot claim the remaining the valuable items within the district. Just like on the Cathedral Quarter, the Scourge succeeded on invading the Merchant Square, and have successfully conquered half of the Gilnean Capital City. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot decide to retreat back at their own base camp outside the Capital City to reassemble a new army of undead warriors as they have lost a huge number of their forces upon invading both the Cathedral Quarter and Merchant Square. As the Scourge conquered the Merchant Square, Kel'Thuzad discovers that the bridge between the Merchant Square and the Military District to the south has been already destroyed by the Gilneans.
Kel'Thuzad: "It appears we would not able to reach the southern district from this side. The bridge here had been blown up. Pathetic fools! They are only delaying the inevitable. We will find another way of reaching the remaining city districts! Their entire capital will soon fall! None shall be safe!"
After successfully conquering half of the Gilnean Capital City, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot retreat to the safety of their own base in the southern edge of the Northgate Woods to reassemble a new vast undead army to command. After mustering their warriors, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their army of undead in attacking the Capital City once more to conquer the other remaining districts. Entering through the Cathedral Quarter once again, the Scourge cross the short southern bridge that connects the Cathedral Quarter to the district known as the Greymane Court. The district of Greymane Court serves as the local housing for the majority of the residents in the Capital City. The district is being defended by a huge group of Gilnean soldiers as well as a number of defensive towers built around. There are also a number of citizens in the district that have not evacuated the Capital City. Standing in the middle of the housing district is King Genn Greymane and several of his royal guard soldiers.
Genn: "Standfast, noble citizens of Gilneas! The blasted undead have arrived on our doorstep! We shall fight for our Capital and drive all these vile filthy wretches out of our kingdom! For Gilneas!"
Kel'Thuzad: "Ah so the proud and vainglorious old king has finally shown himself up in the open."
Genn: "You made a terrible mistake of ever stepping foot into my domain, vile lich! Your invasion over our lands shall stop here! I will not let you and your wretched minions bring further ruin upon our kingdom! Gilneas will endure! We shall put you undead down to the grave where you belong!"
Kel'Thuzad: "You never changed, Genn Greymane. After all these years, you are still the arrogant self-centered worthless excuse of a king you have always been. Even now, you stand proudly as if you could defeat the might of the Scourge. We smashed your precious high wall and brought death upon your lands. Soon, all of you shall fall before the Scourge. We crushed the other kingdoms of the Alliance. You and your petty nation is just another one that must be scourged from this world."
Genn: "The Alliance? Pah! Do not underestimate the strength of Gilneas, Kel'Thuzad! Yes, I know all about you, lich! Arugal told me everything! Make no mistake, fool! Gilneas is not the same as Lordaeron or Dalaran! My nation has never relied nor has ever need the Alliance! On our own, we endured the rampage of the orcs long ago, and we shall do so once more against you, foul dead! I will not let my nation to end up in ruins like the others! Gilneas shall stand and defeat the Scourge!"
Kel'Thuzad: "Your arrogance and stubbornness are truly astounding, Greymane. Let us see if your nation can survive the wrath and power of the Scourge! Death itself shall consume your kingdom!"
Both Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead army to attack the Gilnean forces on the Greymane Court. King Genn leads all his soldiers to fight back at the undead in defense of the housing district. A fierce war battle once again ensues at the Gilnean Capital City as the Scourge invade the housing settlement in the city. Just as the massive battle begins, the citizen men who remained in the district have suddenly equipped themselves with weapons and armors from their houses to fight alongside the Gilnean soldiers. The brave citizens armed themselves to become basic footmen and spearmen that bolster the forces of King Genn and join the battle against the Scourge at the Greymane Court.
Gilnean Citizen: "We will fight for Gilneas! Get your swords! To arms!"
Despite being an old man, Genn Greymane proves that he is still a strong and skilled warrior as he leads his soldiers in fighting the Scourge. Genn is a tough veteran battlemaster, which is considered as among the elite and most skilled hero swordsmen throughout the human history. The proud king of Gilneas stands his ground and shows no fear in battling the ravaging undead forces. Despite the strong and heavy defenses of the Gilnean forces in the Greymane Court, the Scourge still have the upper hand on the war battle due to the combined strength and powers of Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot. The undead forces relentlessly push on their fierce assault against Genn Greymane and his soldiers.
As the fierce war battle rages, the undead forces are able to slowly push through the tough defenses of the Gilnean soldiers on Greymane Court. Genn does his best by his strength and abilities to rally his people and fight against the undead, but the combined dark skills and powers of the Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot are overwhelming the king and his soldiers. The Scourge forces eventually overwhelm the Gilnean troops and conquer their heavy defenses upon the Greymane Court. Losing a moderate number of undead warriors, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot secure their victory upon the housing district. Genn Greymane is astounded and horrified upon being unable to holdout against the Scourge, and as a last desperate effort, the king orders his few standing troops to quickly retreat back to the only remaining district of the Capital City located to the southeast, the Military District. It is the district that had been cutoff from the Merchant Square and serves as their final defense in the Capital City.
Genn: "Curse these blasted undead! Fall back, men! We cannot hold them back here! Fall back to the bridge and retreat to the Military District! Quickly! We must return to the stronghold, soldiers!"
Kel'Thuzad: "Their defenses here have fallen! We have taken over this housing district, warriors!"
Gorerot: "Rend all puny Gilneans! Feast on their flesh and bones! Crush buildings! Burn big city!"
Kel'Thuzad: "Only one district remains! Their entire Capital will soon fall! Victory is nearly ours."
As Genn and his surviving men retreat back into the safety of their garrison on the Military District, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead warriors to chase after the Gilneans towards the Military District. Shortly after following Genn and his troops across the southeastern city bridge, the undead forces arrived on the heavily fortified stronghold of the Military District, which serves as the main training base of the Gilnean soldiers upon the Capital City. Now, standing as the last line of defense of Gilneans in their Capital, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot intend of fully destroying it order to complete their conquest of the Gilnean Capital City. The Military District is heavily defended and built with many strong fortifications. In the center of the district stands a building prison called the Stoneward Prison, which contains many dangerous and powerful creatures that the Gilneans have imprisoned. In the center of the base camp are Archmage Arugal, who last fought in the Cathedral Quarter, and King Genn, who just returned from the Greymane Court, as well as his lieutenant, Darius Crowley.
Genn: "Brace yourselves, men! The wretched undead had managed to drive us back here! We must hold our ground and defend this stronghold at all cost! We must not let them conquer our Capital!"
Kel'Thuzad: "Foolish, old king! At this point, you still believe you could defeat the Scourge? Your garrison here is all that you have left upon this city. You will all perish, and your Capital will fall!"
Arugal: "It is not yet over, Kel'Thuzad! I have regained my powers! We will settle our score here!"
Kel'Thuzad: "You cannot hope to win against us, Arugal! You are merely delaying the inevitable."
Genn: "Enough! I grow tired of all you, undead! Your invasion upon my kingdom ends here! You will not take our Capital! You will not take my kingdom! We will fight for our lands! For Gilneas!"
Gorerot: "Rend and tear flesh! Small wizard no match! Old king no win! We rip you all to pieces!"
Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead army to launch a full aggressive attack upon the Gilnean forces at the Military District. A vicious war battle once again ensues between the Scourge and the Gilneans in a final massive battle for the Capital City. The Gilnean defenses in the Military District are the strongest among the other previous city districts. The stronghold is built with many fortified structures and defensive towers. Like in the Merchant Square, there are also some hidden explosive landmines that are placed throughout the vicinity of the camp. King Genn and Arugal bravely lead all their standing soldiers to battle the Scourge army in the hopes of saving their Capital from being completely decimated. As an additional form of defense against the Scourge, Darius Crowley pulls a lever that instantly open the sealed gate of the Stoneward Prison. Coming out from the prison are a group of strong and dangerous creatures that the Gilneans held captive, and will also fight against the Scourge. The beasts consist of several ogre lords, forest troll warlords, and ancient sasquatches.
Darius: "Sire! We shall let loose of all our captured beasts from the prison upon these vile undead!"
Despite all the strong impressive defenses of the Gilnean forces in the Military District, the undead army continues to press on their attack through the means of heavy attrition. Both Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot use all their strength and dark powers in fighting the Gilneans in the fierce battlefield. The lich squares off against the archmage in a contest of magical powers while the flesh beast confronts the old king in a battle of strength and combat skills. The lieutenant of Genn, Darius Crowley, also helps in fighting and leading the Gilnean defenders. Despite the tough defenses of the Gilneans on Military District, the Scourge have the advantage in numbers. Many other Gilnean troops had been killed on the previous city districts. As the war battle rages, the Scourge eventually manage to push through the heavy defenses of the Gilneans. Due to the numbers advantage of the undead warriors, the defenses of the Gilneans have eventually lost its edge despite their preparations and best efforts.
Genn Greymane has been badly injured on his battle against Gorerot. Kel'Thuzad also proves that he has grown to be more powerful than Arugal. After a while of relentless bloody battle, the victory is at hand for the Scourge forces as they managed to overwhelm the Gilneans. Defeat is upon King Genn and his soldiers as their defenses at the Military District are losing to the undead. King Genn is disheartened on seeing his Capital City now falling for he lost so much of his lands to the undead. Despite losing a heavy number of undead warriors on the vicious battle, the Scourge succeeded on razing the Military District. The Capital City has now fallen as all of the districts are conquered by the undead. Genn and his few standing troops have no choice, but to escape the city and retreat to the distant village of Tempest's Reach, which is located on the eastern hills near the cliffside coast.
Genn: "No! Our Capital City! This cannot be! The stronghold has fallen! Our Capital is lost! No!"
Kel'Thuzad: "As I have told you before, old king. You could not defeat the might of the Scourge!"
Darius: "Sire, we cannot win here! There are only few of us left standing! It is futile to fight them!"
Arugal: "My king, he is right! Our Capital is lost. You must flee from the city and retreat to safety!"
Genn: "Damn! I do not wish to forsake our city! We lost many lives who fought and died defending our lands! But what choice do we have now?! Curses! We must warn the rest of our people! I must see my own son and daughter! The undead may have now taken over our Capital, but I will not let them take my children! Quickly, men! Retreat! We must escape and head to the Tempest's Reach!"
Darius: "You heard the king, men! Fall back! Now! Retreat! We will flee to the Tempest's Reach!"
Kel'Thuzad: "Our foes are fleeing, warriors! Do not allow Genn and his lackeys be able to escape!"
Arugal: "I will not let you and your minions to catch up with the king, Kel'Thuzad! You shall have to go through me first! You and I still have some unfinished business to settle! You shall not pass!"
Genn: "What? What are you doing, Arugal? You cannot stop them! Come! Let us escape quickly!"
Arugal: "My king, I swore that I would make him pay for what he did to Dalaran. I shall never rest until I avenge the memory of the Kirin Tor! Hurry and go, my king! You had been a great ruler to me and for this nation! This war is not yet over! It will not end here! Your children need you, sire!"
Genn: "Alright. Do what you must, Arugal. You had been loyal friend and a great lieutenant. I will never forget your sacrifice here! You are a true hero of Gilneas! Thank you and goodbye, Arugal!"
Arugal: "It has been an honor, Lord Genn! Go quickly! I will hold them back for as long as I can!"
At that moment, Genn Greymane, Darius Crowley, and a few other soldiers hurriedly cross through the southeastern exit bridge that leads outside of the Capital City. As the king and his guards escape from the city, Arugal casts his spell of Blizzard upon the bridge to destroy it and prevent the undead forces from chasing Genn and Darius. Turning his attention back to the Scourge, Arugal and a few troops that bravely stayed behind make their stand against the undead forces that surrounded them. Upon cornering the Gilneans, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot led their undead warriors on finishing them. Arugal makes his last stand by summoning Water Elemental to aid him, and casting Blizzard spell to kill several undead. Gorerot and the rest of the undead forces make a short work of the remaining Gilnean soldiers. Kel'Thuzad directs all his attacks on Arugal, and casts Frost Nova spell as a fatal strike to the archmage. Now helpless and nearly dying, Arugal gives his last words for Kel'Thuzad.
Arugal: "To think that you were once among us, Kel'Thuzad. It pains me to even look at you now."
Kel'Thuzad: "Heard that before. As I told you, the Kirin Tor was weak. You could not comprehend the true powers that the Lich King granted me. You made no difference here. You think you saved your king by letting them escape?! Your sacrifice is futile, Arugal. You only delayed the inevitable. Genn Greymane and all of your countrymen will die, and the Scourge will soon consume Gilneas!"
Kel'Thuzad casts another Frost Nova spell as his killing blow on Arugal. The battle for the Gilnean Capital City has finally ended with the Scourge victorious. Despite losing a huge number of undead warriors in the long and gruesome war battle, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot succeeded on defeating the bulk of the Gilnean army. With the fall of Keel Harbor and the Capital City, the undead forces are now in control of much of the lands on Gilneas. Given their triumph at the Capital City, the undead forces intend in finding Genn Greymane and the rest of the Gilneans. Kel'Thuzad has figure out a way for them to exit the city and follow the trail of Genn towards the eastern hills across the rivers.
Kel'Thuzad: "We have done it, Gorerot! The Capital City is now ours. Victory goes to the Scourge! The defenses of the Gilneans are thinned, and there is little left for them to hide in these lands. We shall now go after Genn and his servants to the east across the rivers. We can leave this city through the bridge behind the exit gate at Merchant Square that shall lead us to the northeastern hills. From there, we will follow Genn by the long path. We will find him wherever he runs, and kill him along with the rest of his nation! The Scourge will conquer Gilneas in the name of the Lich King Arthas!"
