WanderingReader's Looting Record (2024)

Dishonored 2 is an interesting game in terms of progression not only mechanics-wise... but also in how much more they played around with the various individually-rendered smaller items that populate each level.

Me: Okay, we'll just stick to swords and collectables like last time right?
Brain: POTENTIAL USE POTENTIAL VALUE
Me: Right, counting the tools it is then.

Aaand then it occurred to me several missions in that a few items that I was counting had been present in previous missions and thus were un-counted... On the bright side, I kind of wanted to play around with the whole New-Game-Plus thing anyways.

For the record, I didn't touch theDeath of the Outsider Expansion. The whole demystifying-our-setting's-biggest-mythological-figure thing just doesn't gel with me, and so I instead pretend that it doesn't exist.

On another note, this one's broken down into a few categories on account of there being more items to keep track of. With that out of the way, onwards to the record!

Some Final Thoughts:

-They brought back chokedust as Not!Chokedust, yet for some reason also stuck a bug on the crossbow "bolt" that contains it... for some reason.

-The masterwork upgrades dredge up that question about upgrading multiple pistols provided that enough funds are available yet again, given the existence of additions including but not limited to:

  • A solid feed strip as opposed to a loose belt of bullets hanging down from the side
  • A scope and upgraded accuracy to the point that one essentially has a "sniper pistol"
  • Conversely to the above, the ability to make a pistol function akin to a sawn-off shotgun
  • The ability to go beyond semi-automatic into burst-fire or fully automatic fire

- Those hand-portable generators are rather interesting in that they're small enough to feasibly be transported without the need for a vehicle. They'd probably still be quite heavy, though.

-Speaking of weight, I have no idea how to figure out just how much gold the reserve blocks have. I couldn't find anything outright stating the weight of the blocks, though for reference the things are a bigger than the average human head. Don't ask.

-While there is nothing guaranteeing that any/all bottles and barrels actually have liquor in them, the fact that the devs felt compelled to actually label said bottles and the fact that some are sitting on shelves untouched lets me believe that at least most of them do have the proper contents within.

-Partway through the second playthrough I realized that there were a bunch of metal tanks of rum. I was not committed enough to looting to go for a third playthrough. Besides which, I'm even less sure of their contents than I am the wine barrels'.

-While the S&J elixir no longer restoring mana was probably a balancing decision, I am still obligated to boo the devs for taking away the mana-restoring properties that would have undoubtedly been present due to Piero's work being incorporated into the stuff.

EDIT: AHA, ALMOST FORGOT!
Fun Fact: You can rewire the "clockwork soldiers" to fight on your side. While gameplay balances mandated their self-destruction, personally I like the idea that one could possibly just hack the things permanently. Can also just shut the things down and pack them on a cart or truck without the usual issues of "living" matter. As such, I'm counting the lot of them as loot and nobody can stop me.
