Tonight is a crossroads game for the program. If we beat almighty LSU (and go on to Omaha, too) it establishes Coach Forbes as "the man," not just a Carolina family hire. It reestablishes us as an elite program, not just a "very good" ACC team. I believe in Coach Forbes, I believe in our team.
"God bless those Tar Heel boys!"

Agree. You can't continue to lose home regionals and Super Regionals.

Yep jeep. If you take the UNC HC job, that means Omaha or bust. Forbes knows it, and I believe the Real Heels show up and show out tonite. LFG!

Totally understand the sentiment and I definitely understand that the standard that this program has set over the last two decades is Omaha, but to me, Coach Forbes already having two ACC championship titles in 4 years, and having hosted postseason baseball in Chapel Hill twice in 4 years, is a clear indicator that he’s the right man to lead the program.

I just can’t shake this worry that our guys won’t play as loose and freely tonight as LSU. I think the team that can avoid pressing (either in the box or on the mound) has the best chance of winning tonight.

Agree 100%. I think it's a powerhouse matchup. I'm shocked it's not the game ESPN chose to televise on one of their network channels. Lots more pressure on the Heels that LSU... IMO.

Good thing we don’t play the game.

Yep, you come in as a national seed and are playing at home where you've dominated all season. You have to seal the deal here.

It may be a statement that we need a new coach

This is wild to say, Forbes has had more success in 4 seasons than our two neighbors in red and blue have had in their careers

Honeycutt, Cook, and Gallaher combined for one hit in 15 ABs last night with 7 strikeouts.
And yet, UNC still threatened somehow to make a comeback.
I keep telling myself there ain't no way those three are going to have another off night like that.

When we went to Omaha regularly it is because we won games like this. Difference here though is you usually are going against a preseason top 5 team back in form in your regional. Had we gotten anyone else we would have cruised like the rest of the good hitting seeds did. But nothing we can do about that except make a statement.

I think “crossroads for the program” is a bit of an overreaction.

Trying to put into context what a win tonight would mean. It wouldn't be bigger than winning the opening Omaha game against Oregon State in 2018, but I do think it would be bigger than even the Stetson Super Regional wins that year. Definitely bigger than the VCU regional wins in 2022.
Basically this win would be our 2nd biggest win in 10+ years in my eyes - since the 2013 run.

Scott Forbes has not lost a home regional as head coach. Hopefully, that will be a true statement after tonight's game.

What a moronic post. It's okay, though. You and the rest of the basketball only sector only have a few more months to tough out.

with the way the bracket is playing out, the winner of this game is going to be a heavy favorite not only to make it to omaha but win at least their first game. its hard to overstate how much we need this win to really cement ourselves as a true national program again

This should be the matchup we want. Elite program, defending champions, but UNC has been the better team this year and playing at the Bosh. Let’s go get a statement win for the program!

Don't think LSU would be favored to beat UVA in the opening game of Omaha (and UNC would be a very small favorite vs UVA).
But I agree that the path is a lot clearer than facing Hagen Smith and Arkansas in a potential Omaha opener.

I hear ya. I think we need the bottom of the order to find its way on base. The bottom third (which includes Gallaher) was 0-10 last night. They did draw three walks and that’s a good way to set the table as the lineup flips. But, according to the box score, Cook/Harber/Donofrio didn’t leave a single runner on base all night. We have to give them chances to hit with runners in scoring position.
