The Miss Volunteer America Pageant stands out as more than just a beauty competition. It goes beyond physical appearance to honor young women who demonstrate a genuine commitment to making a positive impact in their communities through volunteer work.

The winner, determined by a panel of judges, is awarded the title Miss America and at least $50,000 in scholarship money. As the titleholder, she then embarks on a yearlong national tour to advocate for a social issue she has chosen.
Contrary to the winner-takes-all model, Miss America offers a $50,000 scholarship to the titleholder. Additionally, the top 15 finalists, along with various category winners like talent and interview scholarships, receive educational grants.
Married women and mothers are now allowed to compete at Miss USA but are still unable to participate in Miss America. Past winners, including Grace Stanke and Camille Schrier, have supported the stance, while Marsh declined to comment.
Starting in 2021, all young women competition for TEEN or MISS, must first register directly with the Miss America Organization. There is a $35 fee, but once you are registered, your information is sent to the Executive Director of your state program.
Scanlan is the youngest winner since the pageant instituted age requirements -- between 18 and 28 starting in 1938. The age limit changed again in 1993 to 17 to 24. In 1933, for instance, when there was no upper or lower age limit, 15-year-old Marian Bergeron of Connecticut captured the title.
Stanke told Insider she stands by the rule that contestants can't be married or have children. "We spend a lot of time on the road," she said. "It's a very rigorous position."
“I am ready to make a positive impact with this organization that I hold dear to my heart,” said Gankiewicz, of Maui, during a ceremony at the Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach. As the first runner-up, Gankiewicz was announced as the replacement for former Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt, who stepped aside May 6.
Pearcy received the Miss Illinois Volunteer 2024 title on Jan.1. She'll be heading to Jackson, Tennessee, in mid June to represent the state in the Miss America Volunteer competition.
