The first months of Early Access turned out great for Viking survival game Valheim. It sold 6 million copies, established at least one neat player count record, and also got its first set of mods.

The lack of official support didn’t stop crafty players from sharing modifications that add small but welcome changes and tweaks to how the base game works. Read on below for our list of the best Valheim mods.

Valheim Plus

Valheim Plus lets players customize various aspects of their survival experience, like increasing the production rates of Fermenters, Furnaces, and Kilns. It also allows you to change weight values, the maximum number of players on a server, and remove building deterioration resulting from weather. Some of us do more crafting than others and it can be a pain to constantly rummage through containers for the right amount of resources. First person view

It’s only a matter of time before modders figure out a way to make a first-person mod for third-person games and Valheim’s didn’t take its time. Although it’s very much a work in progress at the moment, you can zoom in and play as if you were inhabiting the possibly cozy skull of your Viking warrior.

BetterUI

Getting to grips with new UIs isn’t always easy and, while Valheim’s isn’t the most cumbersome one out there, modder Masa thought it could use some subtle changes that make it easier to understand. The BetterUI mod comes with a suite of small additions that do make a difference, including colors to show durability, custom tooltips, and a colorblind mode. Better Archery

The Better Archery mod, as its name suggests, is one for players who favor ranged combat in Valheim. It adds a new quiver system, improves aiming, and makes arrow physics more realistic. If the RNG gods will it, there’s also a chance that you can retrieve used arrows. Grab it from Nexus Mods.

Mount Up

The Mount Up mod lets you ride tamed loxen, boars, and wolves and show off your Viking strength. You can either control them yourself or jump on a mount that already has a rider, lay back and take in the view, at the cost of not being able to control the creature. Unrestricted Portals

Unrestricted Portals makes its way on our list of the best Valheim mods thanks to how it allows players to take any item through portals, bringing more flexibility to the game’s already ruthless world. Hearth and Home Old Food Stats

The Hearth & Home update breathed new life into Valheim but also changed a couple of its core systems in ways that may not immediately appeal to everyone. If you’re one of those players who enjoyed the game’s food system prior to its recent rework, the Old Food Stats mod lets you turn back time and, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, even customize the parameters of your viking’s food. RequipMe

Death is inevitable in Valheim and mobs camping your tombstone can make staying alive after you’ve recovered your equipment a hassle. Enter RequipMe, a mod that lets you instantly equip your best armor, weapons, and Megingjord after having recovered them from your tombstone, ensuring that you’re ready for battle right away. AlweStats

If you’re adamant about getting as much data about the in-game world as possible, this Valheim mod shows stats for a variety of entities as well as your FPS, ping, clock, wind speed and direction, map coordinates, and more. Grab it from Thunderstore.io
