Miriam O'Callaghan is crossing her fingers for her son Jamie as he starts his Leaving Cert... and thanking her lucky stars that this will be her last year of exams.

As the state exams kicked off with English paper one on Wednesday, the Prime Time host made sure to arrive early to collect her son and had some words of wisdom to share with other parents.

Having gone through the emotional rollercoaster that inevitably goes hand in hand with the Leaving Cert eight times now Miriam had some advice to share with the parents currently fretting on behalf of their children.

Miriam said: 'I'm here a little early to collect my son from his first Leaving Cert exam. He's the youngest of eight doing it and no matter how much you tell them it doesn't matter, I find they all get stressed about it.'

'So best of luck to everybody. Alleluia for me, they're over after this year,' she added. Her followers chimed in to wish Jamie well in the exams and praised her on a job well done as a mum.

The start of Jamie's exams comes just weeks after another of Miriam's sons gave her reason to celebrate.

Her 25-year-old son Daniel made her day when he arrived home to Ireland after 18 months in Australia and New Zealand.

'It's the longest I've ever been apart from one of my children. When I get him home, I am locking him in his bedroom and throwing the key away,' she joked at the time.
