Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (2024)

Parents in your family group can use Family Link to manage account settings in your child's Google Account.

Monitor Google Account settings

Select a setting below to learn more about how it works.

  • Location on Android devices

Tip: Family Link’s parental supervision services may vary depending on your child's device.

Important: Family Link’s purchase approval settings only apply to purchases made through Google Play’s billing system.

Google may save some activity to your child's Google Account, based on the activity settings you chose for your child.

If you change the settings to stop Google from saving your child’s activity, some Family Link features and other Google services may not work.

Choose your child's Google Activity settings

To go to this setting directly in the app, tap the button below:

Tip:The button will take you to this setting for the last visited child in the app.

Choose whether your child can change their Google Activity settings

You and your child can change your Google activity settings. You can also change your settings so only Parents can manage activity controls.

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (5) .
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (6)Account settings Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (7) Privacy settings Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (8) Account data settings.
  4. From "Activity controls," you can allow your child to change these settings.

Tips:

  • Whether or not your child can control their own account settings doesn't change the settings themselves. We recommend parents make sure the settings are correct after they change this control.
  • You can also manage your child's account when you click on your child's name at g.co/YourFamily.

Find or delete your child's saved activity

Important: If you added supervision to your child’s previously existing Google Account, you’ll need their help to do this.

  1. On your child's device, visit the My Activity page.
  2. Search for the app you want to find activity for.
  3. In the top right, tap More Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (9).
    • To find your child’s activity, tap Details.
    • To removeyour child’s activity, tap Delete.

Edit your child's Google Account info

Important: These options are only available if your child is under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and hasn'tchosen to manage their own account.

Change your child's name, birthday, or gender

To go to this setting directly in the app, tap the button below:

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (10).
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (11) Account settings Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (12) Account info.
  4. In the top right, tap Edit Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (13).
  5. Change your child's account information.
  6. In the top right, tap Save.

Tips:

  • You can also manage your child's account when you click on your child's name at g.co/YourFamily.

Change your child's photo

Important: This option is not available if you added supervision after your child’s Google Account was created.

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (14).
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap on their profile picture at the top of the page.
  4. Select a photo, or take a new one.

Reset your child's password

To go to this setting directly in the app, tap the button below:

Tip:The button will take you to this setting for the last visited child in the app.

If you change your child’s password, they may be signed out of their devices. Any supervision settings you turned on won't work until your child signs in again.

  1. Open the Family Link app Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (15).
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (16) Account settings Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (17) Account info Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link (18) Change password.
  4. Sign in with your Google Account information.
  5. Enter a new password.
  6. Tap Change.
  7. If your child has 2-Step Verification turned on, tap Got itto confirm the pop-up notification.

Tips:

  • You can also manage your child's account when you click on your child's name at g.co/YourFamily.

2-StepVerification for your child's account

  • If your child has 2-Step Verification turned on for their account and you change their password, 2-Step Verification will be turned off and an extra layer of security will be removed from their account.

  • Once 2-Step Verification is turned off, a notification email will be sent to both you and your child.

  • Your child can turn on 2-Step Verification again once they sign in to their account. Learn moreabout 2-step verification.
