Okay, considering I've never really used a program like JDownloader before, I think I'm doing pretty good so far. But now I'm stuck. Here's where I'm at.

I appear to have downloaded the movie I want into 41 rar files (totaling about 4 GB). In JDowloader all their status are listed as "Extract OK". What do I do next? How do I join all those rars into a single playable file?

If Jdownloader said "Extract OK" you should have a new folder (or an image file, depends of the edit you've downloaded) with the DVD files in it, waiting for you in the same folder as the 41 .rar files (?)

There's the VIDEO_TS folder, full of very large VOB Files. Is that it?

Yes it is.
You need a DVD player program to read the DVD on your computer.
Some are free and good, like VLC (who can read DVD, but can has trouble reading some menu),
but most of them are not amazing. maybe try http://www.kantaris.org/ it is based on code from Videolan client (VLC)
but with an interface like windows media player. I don't use it, but it looks good. But really just use VLC, it should be fine.

here a link to some software, make your choice: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/video-players

And, of course, you can burn the DVD files as a VIDEO DVD with a burning program like NERO (use VIDEO DVD, and NOT data DVD)
that way you can play the DVD on your home DVD player to watch it on your TV.

Thanks a bunch. Does Adobe Premiere work too?

I know you can burn your working sequence directly into DVD in adobe premiere, but I never burned an "already made" DVD (with VOB files and all) that way.
Not sure you can do this, but maybe I'm wrong.

Try BurnWare, a free burning program for windows.

Most people suggest imgburn to burn to DVD. It's also free and very reliable.

Imgburn is the best for burning video_ts, imo.

Okay, stuck again. Just downloaded a different one. I've got the rar files, status reads "CRC-Check OK (MD5)", but there's no VIDEO_TS folder with the DVD files in it that I can find anywhere.

So what do you have, an ISO file? if so just load it into Nero or Imgburn and select burn Image. In Nero this is in the Recorder Menu.

If you have an ISO file you can also usualy open it with winrar then extract the .VOB and all.

you do realise that you have to UNPACK the rar files by loading them into Winrar before you can do anything right.

Yes, if Jdownloader did not extract the files for you, you, of course, need to extract the file from the .rar yourself.
If it asks for a password (sometime jdownloader do not extract the files because there is a password), you should find it into the info file dowloaded along with the .dlc

I didn't have to unpack the last two I downloaded. With my noob-ness I'm amazed I made it this far. I really should learn more about this stuff before I try to watch any more edits.

Occasionally jdownloader will not extract automatically, even if it is set to do so. Don't know why.

I think this one's a bust. I only got one password with the package and it doesn't work.

Have you checked the file size of each rar to see whether they all downloaded correctly? also when you try and extract the files in winrar do you get an error with the same file each time? if so you need to redownload that part.

and with that folks, its goodnight from me. JDownloader, Extract OK, now what? (12)

Download Quickpar and open the par2 files. It will show you the damged ones and - providing enough blocks are present - give you the option to repair the archive.
