The Skyscale is an extremely versatile mount that can fly, climb up vertical walls, and generally make exploration much easier. In Secrets of the Obscure, by completing the A New Friend achievement, you can recruit a Skyscale of your own. Below, we'll take a look at how to complete every step of this achievement.

To start the A New Friend achievement and start unlocking your Skyscale, you need to own the Secrets of the Obscure expansion and train the first Flight Training Mastery, "Who Rescues Whom?". After that, the collection will automatically start, showing you your first step of finding an abandoned Skyscale egg.

Abandoned Eggs

The first step in this collection is to find an abandoned egg somewhere around Skywatch Archipelago or Amnytas. Which nest has the egg is random, so you may need to search all of them before you find it. However, once you get the egg, you can move on to the next step. After you've obtained your egg, talk to Skyscale Trainer Dyanne near the Beacon of Ages to continue.

Now that you have your Skyscale egg, you need to infuse it with various elements found across Tyria.

Alternatively, you can purchase the necessary enchantments for infusing your Skyscale egg from Dyanne, but the cost of each item is incredibly high, and not worth it at all. We don't recommend purchasing any of these enchantments, as they are relatively easy to get the normal way.

In total, you'll need 29 Provisioner Tokens, 375 Static Charges, 375 Pinches of Stardust, and 500 Essences of Despair. You can get Provisioner Tokens from the Faction Provisioners by delivering a variety of items, often of the time-gated variety.

For example, you can trade 5 Globs of Ectoplasm for a Token once a day, or you can trade an unlimited amount of Lumps of Mithrilium, which can only be crafted once a day. If you're starting from scratch, it may take a few days or some extra gold to collect all the Tokens you need.

Static Charges and Pinches of Stardust can be earned by completing events or other objectives in Skywatch Archipelago and Amnytas, respectively. Likewise, Essences of Despair can be earned from all Tiers of Rift Hunt Bounties, which can be found in Secrets of the Obscure maps and in other maps around Tyria.

Rising Spirits Mastery And Completing A New Friend

After completing the Skyscale Egg Infusions, Skyscale Growing Comforts, and Skyscale Saddle Materials Collections, all that's left is to train the Rising Spirits Mastery in the Flight Training track. This is the final Mastery of the track, so you'll need a total of 25 Mastery Points to fully unlock this Mastery. You can do this while collecting the items above.

Once that's done, return to Dyanne at the Beacon of Ages and she will reward you with a Skyscale.

Completing this achievement will also unlock the A New Look achievement collection, which will reward you with the Kryptis Skyscale Skin. Even if you've already unlocked the Skyscale in Path of Fire, it's worth doing A New Friend to eventually unlock this exclusive skin.
