AEW Dynamite Results 6/5 - AEW World Championship On The Line, MJF Appears & More (2024)

Welcome to Wrestling Inc.'s results for "AEW Dynamite" on June 5, 2024, coming to you live from the Blue Arena in Loveland, Colorado!

MJF made his highly anticipated return from injury at AEW Double or Nothing on May 26 when he confronted his former tag team partner Adam Cole and announced that he had re-signed with AEW after months of speculation as to where he would land when his contract expired. Tonight, he will be making his first appearance on AEW programming since then.

Following his successful defense of the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing and his win over Killswitch last week on "Dynamite", Swerve Strickland looks to score another win tonight as he puts his title on the line against The Undisputed Kingdom's Roderick Strong. Strickland will surely be extra motivated to win tonight's match as he will be looking to gain some momentum heading into his AEW World Championship match against AEW International Champion Will Ospreay at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 30.

Wheeler Yuta will be returning to competition tonight for the first time in over five months as he joins forces with his Blackpool Combat Club teammates IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, and Claudio Castagnoli to square off with Esfinge, Rugido, and CMLL stars Volador Jr. and Magnus. The reigning Ring of Honor Pure Champion has been sidelined with an injury and last competed at the "AEW Rampage" Homecoming special on January 12 in which he unsuccessfully challenged Eddie Kingston for the AEW Continental, Ring of Honor World, and NJPW STRONG Openweight Championships.

The Outcasts' Saraya will also be returning to action tonight as she goes one-on-one with Mariah May. Saraya and May previously met one another in the ring on the May 22 edition of "Dynamite", in which May and reigning AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm defeated Saraya and Harley Cameron.

We are live! Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz greet audiences at home as MJF makes his way down to the ring.

MJF says he's back and puts over his new t-shirt, then says he's in the ring to put everyone on notice. He says as he was sitting at home nursing up his injuries, he was watching a bunch of children making bold claims such as Kazuchika Okada and Swerve Strickland. He takes shots at both of them, then says he took offense to Strickland calling himself a business mogul as he never went to business school. He says the most egregious of the claims was Will Ospreay saying he was the best in the world, and says the last time he checked, he wasn't Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Cody Rhodes, Samoa Joe, Kenny Omega, and Hiroshi Tanahashi among others. He says he's been able to beat all of those names, and says the next time Ospreay wants to come on his show and lie through his teeth, he should watch his tone and check his mouth.

MJF says he's the best in the world, and says in five short years, he became the face of AEW. He says he's created some of the most memorable moments and matches in the history of professional wrestling, and says he became the most hated man in wrestling only to become the most beloved. He says people are trying to smear his name and revise his history and legacy.

Rush's music hits, and he makes his way down to the ring. Rush says much like all the other stupid and filthy Americans in the building, MJF never shuts up. He says while MJF was gone, he was working hard wrestling. He says MJF gets a big celebration for coming back, then asks where his celebration and big moment is. Rush says he's going to take MJF's moment and spot because when you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

MJF says it was rough when Tony Khan was in charge, but things have only gotten worse now that The Elite is running things. He asks fans if they can hear Rush, and Rush looks to repeat himself, but MJF cuts him off and tells him no one cares what he has to say. He says he know how talented Rush is having one paid him to take out Bryan Danielson, and rattles off a few of Rush's accomplishments. MJF says while Rush has overcome some of the best, he isn't one of the best but the best. He then tells Rush that he's better than him and he knows it.

MJF and Rush then begin brawling in the ring, but security, referees, and Christopher Daniels run down to the ring to separate the two men.

Orange Cassidy then makes his way down to the ring. Kyle O'Reilly, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Rey Fenix, and Alex Abrahantes follow.

The bell rings and Lethal dumps Cassidy out of the ring. Lethal delivers an arm drag to send Fenix out of the ring, then sends O'Reilly out to join him. Cassidy flies off the top rope to level Lethal, then takes down Fenix. O'Reilly trips Cassidy on the apron, then lands a kick on his chest on the apron. Cassidy responds with a missile dropkick before Fenix slides inside the ring. Fenix fires off forearms on him, then levels him with an arm drag off the top rope and follows it up with a dropkick.

Lethal clocks Fenix from behind and gloats, then fires off stomps on his chest and sets up for the Lethal Injection. O'Reilly catches Lethal and Fenix looks to land a kick on him, but accidentally hits O'Reilly. The four men then begin brawling with one another.

Back from the break, Cassidy delivers Stun-Dog Millionaire to Lethal. He lands one on O'Reilly, but Fenix lands a splash on him. Cassidy looks to land a Tornado DDT on Lethal, but Lethal counters into a Figure Four Leg Lock. Fenix looks to break the hold, but Lethal sees him coming. O'Reilly locks in a Sleeper on Fenix, but Lethal relinquishes the hold on Cassidy to break the hold O'Reilly has cinched in. O'Reilly locks in a submission on Lethal, but Cassidy and Fenix break things up.

Fenix dumps Lethal out of the ring, but Cassidy levels Fenix with a Tornado DDT. Cassidy then lands Orange Punch on O'Reilly, but Lethal dumps Cassidy onto the apron. Lethal then delivers a backbreaker-flatliner combination to Cassidy and lands the Lethal Injection on O'Reilly, but Fenix rolls up Lethal for the win.

Winner (and new Number One Contender): Rey Fenix

Trent Beretta and Don Callis then make their way down to the ring, and Beretta grabs a chair. Cassidy grabs a chain from under the ring and wraps it around his fist, then gets inside the ring to join Beretta and Callis. Kris Statlander then slides in the ring and inserts herself in between Beretta and Cassidy as Stokely Hathaway marches down to the ring. Statlander slaps Cassidy, but Willow Nightingale's music hits. She runs down to the ring, and Statlander retreats.

We then head backstage and see Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith pull up to the Blue Arena as Jericho gives his driver and the cameraman advice about how to do their jobs.

Back from the break, Christopher Daniels makes his way down to the ring and announces that a new TNT Champion will be crowned at Forbidden Door in a Ladder Match. He says another qualifier match will take place up next, and Mark Briscoe and Brian Cage then make their way down.

The bell rings and Cage lands a shoulder tackle on Briscoe. He fires off clotheslines on Briscoe in the corner, but Briscoe sends Cage crashing out of the ring and lands a dropkick on him through the middle rope. Briscoe tosses a chair into the ring, but the referee disposes of it and Briscoe begins arguing with him. Cage then levels him with a clothesline on the outside, then fires off stomps on him and sends him crashing into the barricade. He then sends Briscoe crashing off the ring apron face first and suplexes him into the ring from the apron before he flexes his biceps.

Back from the break, Briscoe fires off a series of forearms on Cage and follows it up with more strikes. We see Konosuke Takesh*ta and Don Callis watching the action from the crowd as Briscoe goes for a pin on Cage. Cage kicks out and Briscoe sends him crashing to the outside. Briscoe then follows him out there and grabs a chair from under the ring. He slides one inside and sets up a second one. As the referee disposes of the first one, Briscoe uses the second one as a launching pad to fly over the top rope.

Briscoe ascends to the top and lands a missile dropkick from the top on Cage as we see Jack Perry watch the action from backstage. Cage sends Briscoe crashing into the mat and goes for a pin, but Briscoe kicks out. Cage delivers a sit-out powerbomb and looks to send Briscoe crashing into the mat, but Briscoe escapes and lands a spinning right hand on him. Cage delivers a dropkick, but Briscoe responds with a single leg dropkick on him. Briscoe delivers a Death Valley Driver to Cage and ascends to the top rope before he delivers an elbow drop for the win.

Jack Perry then sends a message to Tony Khan, and says that he will be the next TNT Champion.

We then head backstage to HOOK and Samoa Joe chatting with Renee Paquette. Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari, and Mark Sterling interrupt, and a verbal confrontation ensues between HOOK, Joe, Nese, and Daivari.

Back from the break, we then head backstage to Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith approach "Daddy Magic" Matt Menard and "Cool Hand Ang" Angelo Parker to "congratulate" them on their accomplishments.

Back at ringside, The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn make their way down to the ring. The Young Bucks appear on the big screen to interrupt them and says The Acclaimed will not be heard from or seen tonight because their segment has been cut.

We then head backstage to Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana chat with Renee Paquette, where Strickland hands Prince Nana a yellow envelope to send to Ospreay in the United Kingdom.

Back at ringside, Blackpool Combat Club makes their way down to the ring. Esfinge, Rugido, Magnus and Volador Jr. follow.

The eight men stare one another before the bell sounds and they all begin brawling with one another. Magnus and Danielson brawl while Rugido and Moxley go at it. Yuta and Esfinge brawl on the opposite side.

Danielson gets Rugido back inside the ring and lands a few chops on him. Rugido lands a chop of his own, then delivers a hurricanra on Danielson. Castagnoli levels Rugido, but Volador Jr. flies off the ropes. Castagnoli levels him, and Esfinge levels Moxley with a tope suicida. Volador Jr. levels Castagnoli with a hurricanrana, and Magnus dials it up for a 619 on Danielson. Yuta levels Mangus with a shoulder tackle, but Magnus takes him down with a hurricanrana and delivers a chop on him. Castagnoli delivers an uppercut to Magnus in the corner, and double teams with Danielson on him.

Back from the break, Moxley and Magnus are brawling in the ring. He fires off a few kicks on his spine, but Magnus delivers a few chops to Moxley. Magnus delivers an enzuigiri to Moxley. Esfinge takes down Castagnoli, Danielson, and Yuta. Castagnoli lands a Monkey Flip on Esfinge, but Esfinge lands one of his own. Moxley delivers a Stunner to Esfinge, and Magnus delivers a pair of double knees to Yuta in the corner.

Castagnoli executes The Swing on Magnus, but Volador Jr. levels him with a hurricanrana off the top rope. Danielson fires off the Yes Kicks on Volador Jr. but Rugido delivers a scoop powerslam to Yuta. Rugido follows it up with an arm drag to Yuta, but Moxley levels Rugido. Moxley levels Magnus with a DDT, but Volador Jr. takes down Castagnoli with a hurricanrana. Danielson lands the Busaiku Knee on Volador Jr. and Rugido rolls up Yuta. Yuta kicks out and sends Rugido crashing into the mat. He then pins him for the win.

Winners: Blackpool Combat Club

We then head backstage and see The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn confront The Young Bucks after what happened earlier tonight.

Back from the break, we head back over to The Young Bucks and see them meet with The Patriarchy. Christian Cage complains to Matthew and Nicholas Jackson about being screwed out of the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing, and says he wants another shot. Matthew says he and Nicholas will see what they can do, and says they should continue to have one another's backs.

Mariah May, Toni Storm, and Luther then make their way down to the ring. Saraya, Zak Knight, and Harley Cameron follow.

The bell rings and Saraya wastes no time going after May. May lands a forearm on Saraya, then sends her crashing into the mat and follows it up with a dropkick. She then delivers a spinning Sidewalk Slam, but Saraya slides out of the ring for a breather. May chases her back in the ring, but Saraya slides back out. May chases her back inside again, and the two continue this until Saraya lands a kick on May on the outside. Saraya then sends May crashing into the barricade and calls for Cameron to get her some water.

Back from the break, Saraya and May take turns landing forearms on one another before May connects with a headbutt on Saraya. She charges at Saraya in the corner, then sits her on the top rope and lands a double chop on her. May then delivers a hurricanrana to Saraya off the top. May then ascends to the top and delivers a dropkick to Saraya before she lands a Hip Attack and goes for a pin. Saraya kicks out and delivers a Cradle DDT before she connects with a superkick and locks in a Scorpion Cross Lock. May taps out.

Winner: Saraya

After the match, Storm checks on May. Saraya and Cameron then beat down Storm and May, but Mina Shirakawa's music hits and she runs down to the ring. She lands a pair of spinning back fists on Saraya and May, then cradles May as a jealous Storm watches on. Storm and Shirakawa then get in one another's faces, but May breaks things up.

We then head backstage to Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith where Jericho encounters Private Party and gives them "advice" before inviting them to be guests on "TV Time With The Learning Tree Chris Jericho" next week.

Back from the break, Undisputed Kingdom then make their way down to the ring. Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana follow.

The bell rings and the two lock up. They go back and forth before Strong slides out of the ring for a breather. He gets back inside and fires off strikes on Strickland before Strickland whips Strong into the corner. Strickland ascends to the top, but Taven distracts him, opening the door for Strong to trip Strickland and send him crashing into the top turnbuckle. Strong delivers a chop to Strickland on the outside, but Strickland catapults Strong into the ring post and Taven checks on him.

Back from the break, Strong delivers a knee to Strickland's midsection and looks to plant him.

Strickland counters into a pair of double knees and sends Strong crashing into the top turnbuckle face first, then flies off the middle rope to level him and follows it up with a flatliner. Strickland then delivers a Brainbuster, but Bennett hops up on the apron. Strong takes advantage and rolls up Strickland, but Strickland sends him crashing into the mat and goes for a pin. Strong kicks out and Strickland sets up for House Call, but Strong avoids it and sends Strickland crashing into the ring apron spine first.

Strong gets Strickland back in the ring and the pair shove one another. Strong lands a codebreaker on Strickland, then follows it up with three strikes and an Angle Slam. He connects with a powerbomb and goes for a pin, but Strickland kicks out. Strong then delivers a running kick to Strickland, but Strickland delivers a kick to Strong and flies over the top rope to level him on the outside. Strickland gets Strong back inside the ring and sets up for House Call, but Strong avoids it. Strickland then connects with House Call after going for it a second time and pints Strong for the win.
