Founded in 1924 as "Ace Stores", the company changed its name to "Ace Hardware Corporation" in 1931. It grew dramatically following World War II, more than tripling its sales between the late 1940s and 1959.

Moore County is no longer home to the biggest Harris Teeter in the country (sob) but it can now lay claim to the biggest Ace Hardware in the country. It's called Provision Ace Hardware, it's 72,000 square feet, and it's now open near the Airport Traffic Circle.
